Accessing Local Files
Using the File Explorer to interact with local files on the GitPod instance
Using the file explorer that is included with Bwb, it is possible to access and browse local files on the GitPod instance that are present in the folder that was shared upon starting Bwb. To access the file explorer, select a different workspace by clicking on the left or right arrow in the bottom left-hand corner of the Bwb desktop screen.
After selecting a new workspace, right click on the desktop and select the ‘Files’ option from the drop down. This selection will open up a window titled ‘Home’.
Home is the location where the file explorer originally opens. To navigate to the location of the files shared with Bwb, in the left pane of the file explorer window, single-click on ‘File System’. Then, in the right pane, double-click on the folder labeled ‘data’. The files shared with Bwb will now be displayed in the right pane of the file explorer window.
Additionally, if a text-based file needs to be edited, double-click on the file in the file explorer’s right pane to open the file in the text-editor called Geany. As can be seen in the following picture, an empty text file called ‘finished’ has been opened in Geany.
